Coffee – An International Sun Salute

Every morning in Chiang Mai, I had a ritual.  Saliomjoy on Ratchadamnoen Road just inside Tha Phae Gate — I’d order a caramel cappuccino, two fried eggs with toast and a fruit salad.  It was the perfect morning preparation for a full day of massage study or wat-seeing.

The majority of the gorgeous latté art below is from Saliomjoy, per my morning ritual.  They usually open around 7:30am.  Most of the coffee specific places around Chiang Mai opened later in the morning, too late for those of us who needed to get to class by 9am.

Aside from Saliomjoy, when out and about during the day, there are a few other fun coffee places to try.  Ponganes next to Baan Klang Vieng Guest House on Moon Muang Soi 5 is a great place for a traditional coffee; if you need something to cool you down on a hot day, try their apple tea.   Funky Dog Cafe is another fun find.  The owner of the Funky Dog roasts his own coffee beans, creates curry dishes from the old school music of Northern Thailand and does in fact own a funky dog.
